The Separation of Church and Business
The events of the world these past two weeks has lit a fire under millions of Americans and people around the world; the fire being not one of political aspiration, or judicial triumph, but of the Holy Spirit. Watching the hours long video of the Charlie Kirk memorial that took place September 21st, you will witness one of the most spectacular celebrations of life and Jesus Christ that has ever taken place in this country's history. The enemy had hoped to see a funeral on that day, but it was the exact opposite that took place.
This, and the events of the past year, both personal and in America at large, has created a conviction within me that is this; we NEED to bring God back into this country if we are going to save it. Make no mistake, our beautiful and freedom loving country needs saving. Here are just four points illustrating this:
- The number of drug overdose deaths in the United States increased from 22,804 in 2005 to 105,007 in 2023. (https://www.cdc.gov/nchs/data/databriefs/db522.pdf)
- The age-adjusted suicide rate in the United States rose from 10.9 per 100,000 in 2002 (stable through 2005) to 14.2 per 100,000 in 2022. (https://www.cdc.gov/nchs/products/databriefs/db509.htm)
- The prevalence of obesity among U.S. adults increased from 34.7% in 2005-2006 to 40.3% in 2021-2023. (https://www.cdc.gov/nchs/data/hestat/overweight/overweight_adult.htm)
- The U.S. federal debt as a percentage of GDP rose from 37.7% in 2005 to 122% in 2024. (https://fred.stlouisfed.org/series/GFDEGDQ188S)
That's simply to name a few and even scarier than that is the increasing number of those who believe violence is an acceptable means of resolution - even in the wake of what's just happened! Plain and simple, this country is dying, but it's not too late. Just as several Bible verses state that all things are possible with God, we can save the United States through Him. It's important to understand that this country was founded on the principles of Christianity and those principles are exactly what we need to bring back to the forefront. You may not accept this, but morality comes from God, not the government or some enlightenment philosopher, and it's that exact understanding which will make America great again.
So, with all that being said, why am I posting this on a business blog and sharing it on LinkedIn versus stating this somewhere less professional and more social, such as one of the social media platforms? If we're to reverse the decay of our country, we can't simply speak of God and His word at home and within our families. We must bring Him with us everywhere we go and make good examples of ourselves to those who would otherwise not be exposed to God's glory. In other words, we spend so much of our time at work and if you're a Christian, you shouldn't allow your employees and colleagues to witness your good deeds and good nature and allow them to mistake that for something that's inherently you; give credit where credit is due and let those who work with you know that it's Jesus who you aspire to be like and any goodness in you comes from His example, not your own.
If you had an upbringing that's anything like mine, you'll surely believe there's something taboo about doing this; that there's good reason for the seperation of Church and State, or in this case, Church and Business. That was me. Talking about religion in the workplace is something that would have been an uncomfortable proposition for me a few years ago. That being said, it's high time we do away with this kind of weird, impersonal idea of professionalism. Personally, I think it's beyond cool that the tree company employees having breakfast next to me a few weeks back had a Bible verse on the back of their company uniforms.
With that, I challenge you to change your level of what we have come to think of as being "polite" or "professional". That doesn't mean you have to go and convert anyone to Christianity on day one, but consider telling someone today that you are a Christian, or that going to Church has done a lot of good for you, or even more simply, try working "Praise God" into a conversation. We've got to start moving the needle, even if it's with small steps, because shying away from God is only going to create a more and more immoral country, which is not something any of us wants.
Thanks for reading and may God bless you.
